Christmas Cookie Round Up

Growing up I would sit on the counter while my grandma, known as MawMaw, would make her annual curated Christmas Cookie Tin. We would go to the Pevely Flea market and collect old tins to put them in and she would give them away to friends and family. I looked forward to it year after year.

Maw Maws tradition has lived on through me for as long as I can remember. I’ve lived three hours south west of her for some time now and have since made them with girlfriends for the last several years. I am lucky enough to have a very creative and artistic friend group that nails the sugar cookie design every time along with a talented, passionate, baker that works quick.

Christmas Cookie Day is my favorite day of the year! But, it’s also a very exhausting and messy day. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth every minute and the curated cookies get better year after year! I just love gifting them to those I love. I wanted to share the recipes we used this year along with my personal review of each.

The Line Up:

Chewy Molasses Cookies

Jen made these so I can’t speak to the method, though I know she used butter rather than coconut oil and they are delicious. Crispy on the outside and perfect chewy molasses goodness on the inside just as the name describes.

Buttery Jam Diagonals
In the latest Bon Appetite magazine these intrigued us. A fairly simple, quick recipe. I love the buttery shortbread and the jam filling made it festive. I’m not sure I’ll need this one again in the holiday box, but I did love it!

Chocolate Chunk Shortbread

Alison Roman’s chocolate chunk shortbread cookies have made the annual cookie box for the last three years. You can’t miss with this. Super delicious, and fun to make. I made this the night before and let them chill overnight. 10/10

Coffee Toffee

Coffee & chocolate? Heaven. Jen made these the night before, all I can say about it is delicious. I can’t wait to eat these with some vanilla ice cream tonight. mmm

Sprinkle Cookies

These added the perfect festive touch to our boxes. They were a great consistency, beautiful and delicious!

Chocolate Mini Cookies

Pure delight 10/10 a house favorite. Rich and delicious.

Aunt Lu’s Biscotti: A nostalgic recipe made by my dear Aunt Linda. These are quite labor intensive, but oh so delicious. I just love them with my coffee in the morning. Want the recipe?

Turtles: Another recipe my Aunt Lu gave me. It’s very simple; a square buttery pretzel, a Rolo and a pecan on top. Super simple to make, very tasty and hard to eat just one.

Sugar Cookies: We’ve learned that homemade sugar cookies in years past took up a lot of time and energy on the day of the event. We cheated and bought pre made cookies and icing from our grocers bakery. Shh. They were great!

It was a perfectly cozy, dreary, drizzly day here in the Midwest. 🍪 Here are some snaps of today.

Starting off strong with a solid breakfast.

I miss it too Mawmaw. I miss it too. But I’ll be bringing you some soon!
